As outside temperatures continue to drop, everyone begins to look for fun and engaging indoor activities to do with their loved ones. Holiday crafts are a great way to get the family together and create memories that will last a lifetime. Here are a few fun and exciting holiday and winter craft ideas that are simple to make and fun to share.

Personalized Coffee Mugs

Materials

  • 4 ceramic or porcelain mugs

  • 2 or more porcelain pens in seasonal colors (Sharpies will also work)

Instructions

This craft is easy and will last for years to come! Start by picking out plain ceramic or porcelain mugs from a craft store or the dollar store. Once you have your mugs selected, use the porcelain pens and/or sharpies to decorate your mug. Seal in your design by baking the mugs in an oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Not only are these a fun staple to have in your own cabinet, they make great Christmas gifts-just include a packet of coffee or cocoa mix!

Salt Dough Ornaments (No Bake)

Materials

  • 1 cup of salt

  • 2 cups of flour

  • 1 cup of warm water

  • ½ teaspoon of gel food coloring or 3 large spoons of liquid food coloring

  • Peppermint

  • Mixing bowl

  • Rolling pin

  • Spoon

  • Ribbon/string

  • Cookie cutters

Instructions

Once you have all of your materials out and measured you will begin by adding your salt, flour and warm water together in a large mixing bowl. Use your hands and fingers to mix all of the ingredients together. Once the dough has been mixed well, add the food coloring. Once the dough is dyed to the desired color, use a rolling pin to roll the salt dough into an even layer (roughly 1 cm depth). Using a cookie cutter, cut out your desired shape in the salt dough. Make a hole using the tip of a pencil, pen or straw so that you can put a ribbon/string through the ornament after it has dried completely. If you are feeling extra creative you can use glitter and/or paint to give it a personal touch! Leave decorations to air dry on a flat surface overnight.

These cute ornaments make excellent gifts to give to grandparents as keepsakes to add to their Christmas tree each year.
