Assisted Living Is Our Focus
Our people, programs, and building are designed around assisted living and the residents it serves.
One family. One calling. One remarkable place to call home.
Our Story
In the early 1990s, my father, Jeff Stephenson, saw a clear need for quality senior care in the greater Angier community. At the time, senior care often felt institutional and lacked warmth. His standard came down to a single question: would he choose this place for someone he loved?
The land came first. He did not want a building pressed against a highway. He wanted open ground, quiet surroundings, and trees. With that vision in mind, he bought seventeen acres from his own father, land where his father had been raised and that had been in our family for more than 150 years.
An early description of the property noted, “The land sits near the crest of the road and has many fine shade oaks throughout.” Hence, Oak Hill.
Ground was broken in 1995, and Oak Hill opened its doors in December 1997. Thirty years later, we remain family-owned and operated, and we have cared for generations of families from Angier and across the Triangle.
Today, I have the privilege of leading Oak Hill alongside my father and brother. Five generations after our family first worked this land, his question still guides every decision we make, from who we hire to what we serve at supper.
Among the families we have cared for is our own. Most recently, my grandmother, Laurie Stephenson, called Oak Hill home from 2021 to 2024. Laurie's Café is named in her honor.
Would we choose Oak Hill for someone we love? We did.
— Barnes Stephenson, Principal
Our History
Few communities can trace their roots as deeply as their oaks. Ours can.
The land that would become Oak Hill enters our family as a working homestead shaded by oaks, passed down through five generations.
Oak Hill welcomes its first residents to a purpose-built brick home designed around one level of care, done well.
Our first major expansion adds Dogwood Hall, with larger rooms built around the Fountain Courtyard, as more families from across the region turn to Oak Hill.
Our newest and quietest hall opens, with our most spacious rooms and suites and a private garden.
Thirty years on, Oak Hill remains owned and operated by the family that founded it, on the land that family has called home for five generations, and with an eye toward the generations to come.
What Makes Oak Hill Different
Our people, programs, and building are designed around assisted living and the residents it serves.
On a typical day and evening, eight to nine aides and two supervisors are on duty, about one aide for every ten residents and nearly twice the state minimum. Including our culinary, housekeeping, activities, maintenance, and administrative teams, about one team member is on duty for every three residents during the day.
Independently owned and operated by the family that founded it, never part of a chain.
One monthly rate covers all standard care and services. Our rates are posted for every family to see.
